Guayacanes is a quiet, unassuming beach between Juan Dolio and Boca Chica that remains largely undiscovered by international tourists. Popular with Dominican families and residents of nearby San Pedro de Macoris, this beach offers a peaceful alternative to its more famous neighbors.
The beach is a gentle curve of golden sand backed by palm trees and modest beachfront properties. There are no large resorts here, just a handful of small hotels and local restaurants. The water is calm and the atmosphere is decidedly local, making it a great spot to experience everyday Dominican beach culture.
Guayacanes is also known for its connection to baseball -- San Pedro de Macoris, just 15 minutes away, has produced more Major League Baseball players per capita than any city in the world. Don't be surprised to see local kids practicing their swings on the beach.

Guayacanes has calm, reef-protected waters with a gradual sandy slope. The water is shallow near shore and suitable for families. Swimming is safe in the main beach area, though there are no formal lifeguard stations.
Some sections have rocky patches and seagrass on the sea floor, so water shoes are recommended. Visibility varies from 8-15 meters. Snorkeling is possible near the reef edge but is not a primary draw. The water temperature stays warm at 27-29 degrees Celsius year-round.
Guayacanes is located along the southern highway (Autopista del Este) about 50 minutes east of Santo Domingo and 20 minutes from Las Americas Airport. The beach is signed from the highway.
Public guaguas from Santo Domingo pass through Guayacanes on the route to Juan Dolio (RD$150-200). Taxis from the airport cost RD$2,000-2,500 (USD $35-45). Motoconchos in the area charge RD$50-100 for short trips.
Parking is available along the beach road for free or a small tip to informal attendants. The area is easily reached by car and is well-connected to the main highway.
Guayacanes is best during the dry season (December-April) but is pleasant year-round. Weekdays are very quiet, while Sundays see local families gathering for beach days.
The beach is at its most peaceful on weekday mornings. If you want to experience the local social scene, visit on a Sunday afternoon when dominos, music, and barbecues transform the beachfront.
Guayacanes is perfect for travelers who want an authentic, non-touristy Dominican beach experience at budget prices.
