Salto del Limon is the most iconic waterfall in the Dominican Republic — a dramatic 52-meter (170-foot) cascade plunging from a cliff face into a deep natural swimming pool surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. Located in the mountainous interior of the Samana Peninsula near the village of El Limon, this waterfall has become a symbol of the Dominican Republic's natural beauty.
The journey to the falls is an adventure in itself, following a trail through tropical forest filled with cacao trees, royal palms, giant ferns, and birdsong. Many visitors opt for the traditional horseback ride (approximately 30 minutes each way), supporting the local farming community that maintains the trail. The final descent to the base involves steep steps and can be slippery, but the reward — swimming in the cold, clear pool at the foot of the thundering cascade, surrounded by mossy rocks and tropical greenery — is unforgettable.
