Playa El Morro sits at the base of the iconic El Morro headland in Monte Cristi, the far northwest corner of the Dominican Republic. Monte Cristi is one of the least-visited provinces in the DR, giving El Morro an untouched, frontier feel. The area is part of the Monte Cristi National Park, protecting mangroves, lagoons, and the spectacular mesa formation.

Moderate conditions depending on the exact location around the headland. The bay side is calmer, while the Atlantic side has more wave action. Water is warm and visibility is moderate. The offshore cays and reef offer good snorkeling. Currents can be present near the headland points.
Monte Cristi is in the far northwest, about 3.5 hours from Puerto Plata and 4.5 hours from Santo Domingo. El Morro is about 10 minutes from Monte Cristi town. The national park entrance is RD$100. Taxis from town cost RD$300-500.
Best December to March when temperatures are more moderate. Summer can be extremely hot in this arid region. Early morning is best for both hiking and beach time.
