Cascada El Limón is one of the Dominican Republic's most iconic natural attractions — a breathtaking 40-meter (130-foot) waterfall plunging into a refreshing natural pool surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. Hidden in the mountains of the Samaná Peninsula, reaching it is an adventure in itself.
Visitors can choose to hike or ride horseback along a scenic trail through dense tropical forest, crossing streams and passing through traditional Dominican countryside. The reward at the end — a thundering cascade and a cool swim in the emerald pool below — is absolutely worth every step.
Yes! Swimming in the natural pool at the base of the waterfall is one of the best parts of the visit. The water is cool and refreshing, especially on a hot day.
Both options are great. Hiking takes about 40-60 minutes each way and lets you go at your own pace. Horseback riding is faster and saves energy. The trail is the same either way.
The hike is moderate. The trail has some steep sections and can be muddy/slippery, especially after rain. Sturdy footwear is essential. Most reasonably fit people can handle it.
