Wind is best January to July. The dry climate means sunshine is reliable year-round. The area is uncrowded any time. Combine with a visit to the salt flats and sand dunes.
Las Salinas Beach is located near the salt flats of Baní, one of the few natural salt-producing areas in the Caribbean. The beach itself offers a wide expanse of sand with views of the salt flats and the distinctive arid landscape of the southern peninsula. The combination of beach, salt flats, and nearby sand dunes creates a landscape unlike anywhere else in the country.
Las Salinas Beach has moderate to calm conditions depending on the wind direction. The water can be pleasant for swimming, though it is not as protected as reef-enclosed beaches. The flat, wide beach provides plenty of space, and the water is generally shallow near shore. Wind can be a factor, making it occasionally popular for wind-based water sports.
Las Salinas is located on the Baní peninsula, about 1.5-2 hours from Santo Domingo. Take the highway toward Baní, then follow the road south toward the peninsula. The salt flats and beach are at the southern tip. A vehicle with good clearance is helpful for the last stretch of road. The scenic drive passes through the unusual arid landscape of the peninsula.
