El Limon Waterfall Hike

The trek to El Limón waterfall is accessible for most fitness levels:

• Trail length: Approximately 2.5 km each way (5 km round trip), taking 30-45 minutes each direction on foot or 20-30 minutes on horseback
• Terrain: The trail descends through tropical forest and crosses the Arroyo Chico stream several times. The final approach involves a steep descent with wooden steps that can be slippery when wet.
• The waterfall: The main cascade drops 52 meters over a cliff face into a wide, deep pool surrounded by mossy rocks and tropical vegetation. The mist from the falls keeps the air cool even on the hottest days.
• Swimming: You can swim in the pool at the base of the falls. The water is cold and refreshing — a welcome reward after the hike. The bottom is rocky, so water shoes are helpful.
• Horseback option: Local guides offer horseback rides for approximately US$20-30 per person. The horses navigate the trail confidently, though the steep final descent must be done on foot regardless.

Plan for a total of 2-3 hours for the round trip, including time to swim and enjoy the falls.
