Surfing at Encuentro Beach

Playa Encuentro is the heart of Dominican surfing, located just west of Cabarete on the North Coast. The beach offers multiple reef breaks that produce consistent, rideable waves throughout the year, with the biggest swells arriving between October and April from North Atlantic storm systems.

The main breaks include a gentle, rolling left perfect for beginners and intermediates, and a faster, hollower right reef break that challenges advanced surfers. Numerous surf schools operate on the beach, offering lessons for complete beginners through to advanced coaching. The mellow, laid-back surf culture and warm water (no wetsuit needed!) make this an ideal surf destination.
