Playa Paraiso ("Paradise Beach") in the Barahona province is a lovely small beach in the village of Paraiso, along the stunning southern coastal highway. Playa Paraíso is located about 30 minutes south of Barahona on the main coastal road. The beach is visible from the road and has a small parking area. If driving from Santo Domingo, the total journey takes approximately 4 hours. The drive along the Barahona coast is spectacularly scenic with mountains plunging into the sea.
A few small beachfront restaurants serve fresh fish, seafood, and Dominican staples at very affordable prices. The dining is simple and casual, with tables set up near the water. Fresh coconut water and cold Presidente beer are the drinks of choice. On busy weekends, additional vendors may set up along the beach.
