Playa Los Patos claims the distinction of being at the mouth of the shortest river in the world -- the Rio Los Patos, which flows just 31 meters from its mountain source to the Caribbean Sea. This small beach features smooth pebbles, powerful surf, and a refreshing freshwater river pool.
The beach has a wild, dramatic character with waves crashing onto the rocky shore while the clear river provides a calm, cool swimming alternative just meters away.

The ocean at Playa Los Patos has strong waves and rocky conditions -- not recommended for casual swimming in the sea. The freshwater river pool is the main attraction, offering calm, crystal-clear water for swimming and wading. The river pool is shallow, cold, and refreshing.
About 40 minutes south of Barahona on the coastal highway, just past Playa San Rafael. Well-signed from the main road. Taxis from Barahona cost RD$1,200-1,500.
Best from December to May. The river flows year-round. Weekdays are quieter. Combine with Playa San Rafael for a coastal day trip from Barahona.
