Day 1: Arrive in Santo Domingo, Zona Colonial by Night
Land at Las Américas International Airport (SDQ), pick up a pre-booked transfer (around 35 to 45 USD to Zona Colonial, 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic), and check into a boutique hotel inside the colonial walls. If your flight lands before noon, grab a quick lunch on the Malecón to stretch your legs after the flight.
Ease into the trip with a slow orientation walk: Calle El Conde pedestrian street, Parque Colón, and the first cathedral built in the Americas, the Catedral Primada. Keep it light, you have a full colonial day tomorrow. If you still have energy, duck into the Alcázar de Colón for your first taste of 16th-century architecture.
Dinner at Meson de Bari, a classic criolla restaurant in a 200-year-old townhouse, then drinks at a rooftop bar overlooking the Ozama River. Zona Colonial gets lively in the evenings with live music spilling out of Plaza España.
Breakfast on the plane; lunch at Adrian Tropical on the Malecón; dinner at Meson de Bari in Zona Colonial.
Pre-arrange an airport transfer or take an official airport taxi (fixed fare posted). Skip the ride-share from SDQ: the arrivals pickup is restricted.
~$170 per person
Local tip: Change a small amount of USD to pesos (DOP) at the airport for tips and street food, then use ATMs or card payments in the city. Most Zona Colonial restaurants accept Visa and Mastercard.
